It has only been a matter of two years that Riku Acharyya, Batch 2012- 14 of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, had started working with ICICI Securities. Riku received four promotions within 24 months and is already the proud winner of the ‘No.1 Relationship Manager PAN India FY 15-16’ award. We sat with him over a small conversation to try understand how his PGDM education contributed to these success. 

“I completed my B.Com from Guwahati University and my PGDM from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. My campus placement with ICICI Securities happened in the year 2014. I initially joined as a Management Trainee, and due to favorable performance, I have won 4 promotions within this period of time and am presently working as a Branch Manager in Jodhpur,” says a humble Riku when asked about his latest achievements at his work place. 

“The award has been awarded to me for the business performance of my unit. This is the 7th award and is extra special because it is the MD/CEO special award for the Numero Uno rank,” adds the alumnus. 

He mentions how his time at Jaipuria Lucknow contributed in his career building significantly. “The grooming I received in managerial skills is what has helped me achieve whatever I could till now. The course structure and campus life was designed in such a way that makes every budding manager ready to face the challenges in the corporate world. I have identified my own potential and capabilities through various campus activities, which has undoubtedly helped me develop myself further as a manager.” 

Riku has never essentially been the highest CGPA holder in the class. But Riku always ensured to learn the rules of the trade well. In fact, very well! “I believe in maximising my exposure and involvement in whatever I do. At the institute, I was an active member of student council and the different forums and clubs. Being involved in these activities made me versatile and helped me to learn to cope with different situations.” No wonder, Riku today is the street smart, updated, multi-tasking Manager of the 21st Century world. 

The Financial sector is a key recruiter in any B school. To make a successful career in this area, one needs to have many elements: passion for the subject, knowledge of economic developments, strong analytical skills and a versatile personality. Most of all, an individual needs to have strong will power and a belief in his own abilities and clearly, during her days at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Riku had mastered all those skills slowly but steadily over the two years of his student life. 

When asked to give a message for the juniors of his alma matar, Riku smilingly mentioned- “make the most of campus activities while focusing on academics. The wonderful industry exposure that Jaipuria provides will take care of the preparation and exposure you need. Don’t lose on them.”
