Lucknow | The five-day Winter School on Developing Competencies in Pedagogical Innovations, Publishing in High-Quality Journals, Contemporary Research Methods organized from December 10-14, 2023 at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow concluded on Thursday. The Winter school comprised of several workshops that left participants immersed in cutting-edge insights on research and teaching. This collaborative platform encouraged networking, enhancing participants' skills and knowledge, and shaping the future of education and research.

In the inaugural session, Dr. Kavita Pathak, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow, highlighted the Winter School's core aims, emphasizing its unique opportunity for participants to cultivate fresh perspectives on quality publishing and successful research practices. In the Editorial session on ‘Publishing in top-tier journals’, Dr. Steven Carnovale, Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management at Florida Atlantic University, USA & Co-editor in Chief of the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management; and Dr. Yogesh K. Dwivedi, Professor, Swansea University, UK, & Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Information Management, delved into editorial perspectives and strategies to publish in top-tier journals. 

On Day 2, Dr. Shailendra Singh, Professor and Dean-Research at IIM – Lucknow, elucidated survey research intricacies, defining survey methods and discussing concerns like population, biases, and sampling methods. 

Day 3 had Ms. Sangeeta Menon, Regional Publishing Manager at Emerald publishing, taking a session on the “Importance of Research Impact & How to Improve Article Acceptance Rate and Publish Quicker”. This session focused on optimizing research for publishers, highlighting the real-world implications of research impact beyond academia.  Dr. Padma Tripathi, Assistant Professor at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow took a session on Understanding Psychometrics. The session delved into the significance of measurement scales, constructs, error measurement, and ascertaining the validity and reliability of constructs. 

On the fourth day Dr. Arti Chandani, Professor at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, delved into the realm of Innovative Teaching. Highlighting the pivotal role of a teacher in fostering confidence and trust, Dr. Chandani elaborated on adapting teaching styles to cater to diverse student needs, emphasizing simplicity and practicality.

The later part of the day had the Doctoral Colloquium with research paper and 3-minute Thesis Presentation by Ph.D./FPM scholars, in offline and online mode. Ms. Reshma Ghorpade, PhD Scholar of Symbiosis International (Deemed) University was awarded the Best 3-Minute Thesis presentation. Thereafter, Dr. Shweta Singh (Associate Professor, Loyola University Chicago, USA) sensitized the audience on Ethical Considerations in Research and Publication.  

On the concluding day, Dr. Om Jee Gupta, Assistant Professor in the area of Marketing at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow in a session on “A Research Primer”, emphasized on the research process, variables, and scale among others to give the participants reasoning for using the different statistical tools.

The winter school culminated with the valedictory function where Dr. Kavita Pathak, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow distributed the certificates to the participants and wished them for their future research work. Dr. Arti Chandani, proposed a vote of thanks. The Winter School was convened by Dr. Arti Chandani, FPM-Chair, Dr. Anubhav Mishra, Dean Research, Dr. Pallavi Srivastava, International Relations Committee and supported by FPM scholars, Juhi, Ritika, Smita, Raksha and Jagrati.
