On the auspicious occasion of Lohri and Makar Sankranti, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow campus, came alive with vibrant festivities on 15th January. The atmosphere was filled with boundless joy as students and faculty members joined hands to revel in the festivities, creating an aura of unity and pure delight.
The day kicked off with an exhilarating Kite Flying Competition, where the sky transformed into a canvas, adding an element of thrill to the occasion. As the day turned into evening, the Lohri celebration took centerstage, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the dhol, enticing everyone to hit the dance floor and immerse themselves in lively tunes and spontaneous revelry..
The highlight of the evening was the bonfire, symbolizing the collective celebration of the passing of winter solstice. Around these blazing fires, the community gathered, fostering a sense of unity as they wished each other a heartfelt 'Happy Lohri,' marking the auspicious beginning of a new season. Esteemed faculty members graced the gathering with their presence, encircling the fire and contributing to the overall sense of unity and cultural richness. The true essence of Lohri, derived from the words 'til' (sesame) and 'rorhi' (jaggery), was beautifully expressed as participants indulged in traditional festival treats. The historical evolution of the term 'Lohri' from 'tilohri' was vividly portrayed as people sang and danced around the fire, offering symbolic tributes such as gajak, popcorn, puffed rice, and more to the gods, seeking blessings in return.
Festivals are incomplete without food. A delectable buffet of mouthwatering dishes was served to the revellers.
As the sun gracefully set, casting a warm glow over the gathering, the sense of togetherness lingered in the air.
