Orientation Induction Programme at Lucknow Campus

The Career Management Cell of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow organised “Orientation Induction Programme” for the batch 2024-26 students. The entire event, spanning six days from July 1, was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Himanshu Misra (Chairperson, CMC, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow) and well-coordinated by Mr Aniket Mishra (Coordinator, Placement and Corporate Relations Committee) and CMC team.

Day 1- July 1

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, opened its doors to a fresh cohort of students, marking the beginning of an exciting academic year with the Orientation Induction Program (OIP) for the 2024-2026 batch. The day started with an interactive session with parents, where Dr. Sushma Vishnani (Dean Academics), Dr. Himanshu Misra (Chairperson - CMC) and Dr. Rashmi Chaudhary (Dean, Student Affairs). 


Alumni Network: The program concluded with an interactive session with the Alumni Association, where new students were introduced to the strong alumni network and engagement opportunities. The institute emphasized its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, setting the stage for students' academic and personal growth.

Day 2:

The second day commenced with an expectations-setting session led by Dr. Sushma Vishnani (Dean Academics) followed by a series of enlightening sessions on professional conduct and understanding job opportunities and employability. The sessions on professional conduct in the classroom, examination hall, and labs were conducted by the Programme Chairs, including Dr. Shalini Singh (Faculty Coordinator, Cultural Committee), Dr. Ashutosh Pandey (Asst. Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management), Dr. Chandraketu Singh (Asst. Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management), Dr. Sujit Patra (Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management), and Dr. Harshit Srivastava (Chairperson, PGDM-RM).

 

Additionally, Dr. Rashmi Chaudhary (Dean Student Affairs), provided further insights into professional behavior and standards. She highlighted the role of the Office of Student Affairs in her session. She emphasized its dedication to the holistic development of students, encompassing their overall growth and well-being in various aspects of their lives additionally.

The day concluded with a session on job opportunities and employability facilitated by the CMC, and a "Know Your Campus" tour led by Mr. Khalid Mansoor Samadi (Chief Administrative Officer, JIML).

Day 3:

The third day of OIP began with an insightful session on "Learning Approaches through AI in Business Analytics," conducted by Dr. Amit Trivedi and Dr. Purnendu Pandey (Associate Professor). They highlighted AI's transformative potential in the business analytics field, emphasizing its applications and benefits.


Following this, the Narcotics Control Bureau led a crucial session on "Preventing Substance Abuse." The session aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, preventive measures, and the legal implications associated with narcotics.


The session was led by Mr. CSK Singh (Superintendent, NCB Lucknow) and Dr. Kul Prakash Siddharth (Assistant Director, NCB Lucknow).

 

The speakers addressed key issues, beginning with the factors contributing to drug use susceptibility, including psychological, social, and environmental influences.

 

The program continued with a "Personal Effectiveness" workshop organized by the HR/BC Area by Dr. Manisha Seth (Chairperson, PGDM 2nd Year), Dr. Abha R Dixit (Area Chair, Business Communications), Dr. Kajal Srivastava (Faculty Coordinator, Hostel and Mess Committee – Girls Hostel), Dr. Vijay Laxmi (Area Chair, Human Resource) and Dr. Nishtha Malik (Faculty, HRM and OB). This session focused on enhancing personal skills, improving productivity, and fostering a growth mindset among the students.

 

The events culminated in an engaging inaugural session featuring two distinguished speakers: Mr. Suresh Narayanan (Chairman and Managing Director of Nestlé India) and Mr. Divya Mehra (Senior Group Vice President & Head of Business Operations at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.) and an esteemed alumnus from the 2003-2005 batch. Both speakers shared valuable insights and experiences, inspiring students to excel in their academic and professional journeys.

 

Mr. Suresh Narayanan focused on leadership in a volatile environment. The lessons he underscored included, opportunity in adversity; not to be afraid of uncertainties; importance of teamwork; emphasize ‘can do’ over ‘will try’; people are at the center of everything; have a winning spirit while keeping plan B ready; focus on reality; importance of communication and being humble. For the students he stressed the importance of self-management, particularly in the context of mental wellness.

 

Mr. Divya Mehra, an alumnus from the 2003-2005 batch, spoke about the significance of the platform provided by Jaipuria Institute of Management, describing it as the first step into the corporate world. Mr. Mehra stressed the importance of exploring new opportunities and stepping out of one’s comfort zone to achieve both personal and professional development.

Day 4:

On the fourth day, the focus was on enhancing technological proficiency and fostering teamwork among students. The day commenced with an insightful session on leveraging technology for projects and assignments, presented by Dr. Ankit Mehrotra (Faculty Coordinator, Domain Forum Committee - Business Analytics).

 

Following this, an engaging team-building activity was facilitated by the HR Department, featuring Dr. Anjali Tiwari (Chairperson, Cultural Committee), Dr. Vijay Lakshmi Singh (Associate Professor and Area Chairperson, HR), Dr. Manisha Seth (Chairperson, PGDM 2nd Year), Dr. Pallavi Srivastava (Chairperson, International Relations Committee), Dr. Nishtha Malik (Associate Professor), and Dr. Nilesh Tiwari (Assistant Professor). Students were divided into teams and tasked with constructing a tower using straws, which promoted interaction, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

 

After the team-building session, there was a valuable discussion on healthy lifestyles and mental well-being led by Ms. Shiya Sagar (Co-Founder of Hope Qure Wellness Solutions and Counseling Psychologist), alongside Ms. Nandini Kulshrestha (Counseling Psychologist). They emphasized the importance of mental health and provided practical strategies for maintaining it.

 

The day concluded on a high note with an introduction to the faculty and staff by Dr. Kavita Pathak (Director of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow). She acknowledged the contributions of each department and introduced both the academic and support staff, fostering a sense of community.

 

Students left the program with enriched knowledge, a stronger sense of teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of mental well-being.

Day 5:

The fifth day commenced with a book discussion on "Atomic Habits" by Dr. Kavita Pathak (Director, Jaipuria Lucknow). Dr. Om Jee Gupta (Assistant Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow) conducted a session on "Learning to Learn," organized by the Center for Teaching & Learning, where he explained to students the methodologies for solving case studies.

 

Dr. Jyoti Dewan (Faculty Coordinator, Incubation Committee) and Mr. Nikhar Agarwal (Manager - Incubation) facilitated an Entrepreneurial Orientation session with talks from incubates, including Mrinal Anand (QualTee Apparel), Yatharth Rana, Saransh Gupta, Harsh Shakya (Stationary Shop), and Ayush Vardhan (Founder of The Excel Classes). These entrepreneurs, who are part of the batch of 2023-2025, shared their experiences and insights on how they initiated their ventures.


The day concluded with a session on "Learning through Peers" by Dr. Amit Trivedi. He explained the concept of Learning Teams and provided guidance on effective teamwork. Students left the program with enhanced knowledge on developing productive habits, solving case studies, entrepreneurial insights, and collaborative learning techniques.

Day 6:

On the concluding day, the focus was on Diversity and Inclusion, a session presented by Mr Harish Iyer (Head DE &I Axis Bank). He delivered an insightful discussion on the importance of pronouns and addressed various taboo topics related to diversity, such as gender identity, sexual orientation, and inclusivity in the workplace. His talk emphasized the need for understanding and respecting differences to create an inclusive environment.

 

Following this, there was an engaging session on Social Responsibility conducted by Mr. Vasu and Dr. Reena Agarwal (Chairperson, SRC). They highlighted the critical role that businesses and individuals play in contributing to society. The session covered key aspects of corporate social responsibility (CSR), ethical business practices, and the impact of social initiatives on community development. They also shared real-life examples of successful CSR projects and encouraged students to think about how they can make a positive difference in their communities.

 

The 6-day OIP concluded with an interactive session with the Student Development Council (SDC) members. This session provided an opportunity for new students to learn about the various student-led initiatives and committees at the institute. SDC members shared their experiences, discussed upcoming events and activities, and encouraged new students to get involved and contribute to the vibrant campus life at Jaipuria. The event marked the beginning of an enriching journey for the new batch, setting the stage for their academic and professional development at Jaipuria Institute of Management.
